If you are traveling in the Greater Boston area this summer, you have many alternatives to traveling through the construction zone:
Driving Alternatives
Several commuter rail and bus options are available for travel in this area and can be explored by visiting MassRIDES , MBTA, or the interactive 93NavMap.
Free parking will also be provided during weekends at the Anderson Regional Transit Center, off Commerce Way in Woburn, and there will be supplemental Orange Line service to aid travel in the area. At Anderson RTC, you can access the following services:
Please note that New Hampshire DOT is in the process of rebuilding a 20-mile segment of I-93 between New Hampshire Exits 1 and 5 from the Massachusetts state line to Manchester, NH. Learn more about New Hampshire's Rebuilding I-93 Project.
Driving Directions
From the North
From New Hampshire and points north of the Medford area, you can access regional highways without taking I-93 south through the construction zone:
To travel west or south, take I-495 around Greater Boston to access the following regional highways:
From New Hampshire and points north of the Medford area, you can reach the city of Boston and avoid the construction zone by using one of the following alternate routes, depending on your point of origin:
Take I-495 or I-95 (Route 128) south to access the following routes into Boston:

From the South
From Cape Cod or points south of Boston, you can access regional highways and avoid the construction zone by using one of the following routes:
Take Route 3 north to I-93 south, then onto I-95/Route 128 north to access the following highways to continue north of Boston:
Take I-495 north around Greater Boston to your local route north, or to access the following highways:
I-95 and Route 1 in the Foxborough area
From Cape Cod and points south of Boston, you should use your regular route to reach the City of Boston. As the I-93 Medford construction will take place north of Boston, it is not expected to impact these routes south of Boston. However, drivers may still encounter minor delays and traffic backups on I-93 within Downtown Boston itself.
