If you are traveling in the Greater Boston area during these times but do not need to travel through the construction zone (shown in deep pink on the map), or do not need to drive directly into Downtown Boston via I-93, you can avoid potential travel delays by taking an alternate route to your destination or try a driving alternative. 

Driving Alternatives

Several commuter rail and bus options are available for travel in this area and can be explored by visiting MassRIDES, MBTA, or the interactive 93NavMap.

Free parking will also be provided during weekends at the Anderson Regional Transit Center, off Commerce Way in Woburn, and there will be supplemental Orange Line service to aid travel in the area. At Anderson RTC, you can access the following services:

Alternate Driving Routes

To avoid the I-93 construction area in Medford, consider using one of the following alternate routes:

 

From the North and North Shore

  • Take Route 128 south to Route 1 south in Lynnfield to reach Downtown Boston via the Tobin Bridge.
  • Take I-95/Route 128 south to one of the following routes to reach Boston or to travel to destinations west of Boston:
    • Route 2
    • Mass. Turnpike (I-90)
    • Route 9
  • Take I-95/Route 128 south to one of the following routes to travel to destinations south of Boston:
    • I-95 south of Canton
    • Route 24
    • Route 3 south of Braintree

From the South and South Shore

  • Take I-95/Route 128 or I-495 around Greater Boston and join I-93 north of Medford.
  • Take Route 3 (Southeast Expressway) north to Mass Turnpike (I-90) in Boston, then take Mass. Turnpike (I-90) west to I-95/Route 128 north, I-495 north, or another alternate route north to avoid using I-93 north through the construction zone in Medford.
